SFMTA’s Radio System Replacement Project
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA)
SFMTA’s Radio and Data Communications is a multi-faceted project consisting of Radio Design, CAD/AVL, ITS and SCADA elements. It is a design/build/operate project by Contractor Harris Corporation with major sub – ACS (Conduent) and Jacobs Engineering. The project allowed for upgrading Base Stations radio sites of SFMTA with 700 MHz P25 (Public Service Voice Radio Network (PSVRN) with Local and Regional Interoperability), 800 MHz OpenSky (Data, Voice and OrbCAD MTMS) and 4.9 GHz Wireless Bulk, and Traffic Signal Priority Pilot Data Transfer). The project upgraded 1200 revenue and non-revenue vehicles, and Tunnels with installation of public service 700/800 MHz radios equipment. Harris provided the new radio consoles while Xerox (Conduent) provided the CAD/AVL workstations and displays.
The Project added additional technology to the radio system including an Automatic Vehicle Location/Global Positioning System to accommodate better schedule tracking, expedited emergency response, and passenger data collection.
Scope of Work and Deliverables
Auriga supported SFMTA’s project manager and other stakeholders and provided oversight for the implementation of CAD/AVL and ITS projects on all non-revenue and revenue vehicles, including Light Rail Vehicles.
